Latest Kylesa News
Hello all,
It's been a while since our last update and we've got some cool stuff to report. First off, we're about to hit Europe with our friends in Dark Castle. The trip will include a performance at Roadburn (which we are very
excited about) as well as a few special shows with Shrinebuilder and Eyehategod. Check our tour dates for details. We're also very happy to announce our new partnership with Season of Mist for the next Kylesa
release, which we are hoping to get out later this year! We are stoked to be working with SOM on this next album. They are a forward-thinking label and they have all been very accommodating and a pleasure to work with. The
writing process for the new record has been intense, taking up the better part of each day since January (that's why you haven't heard from us lately), but in return we have some new material that we're very proud of. The studio sessions at The Jam Room in Columbia start in May and end in
early July; we'll try to have a few reports for you along the way. Right after that we're heading back to Europe again through August with our pals in Converge for what will be a month of mayhem. Additional support for the
tour will be provided by Gaza. We'll have more Fall 2010 / Winter 2011 touring plans for the US and elsewhere to be announced further down the line. Laura also has a monthly column coming out in a cool new magazine called Sick Sounds; she interviews Mastodon in the second issue which will
be hitting stands soon. OK that probably does it for now. Thanks for your support and see you out there!

12.8.2009Static Tensions Box Set
The Kylesa Static Tensions Box set is ready to ship. We got them in the other day, they've been assembled and they look killer!
These are only limited to 150 so you'll have to act fast if you want one. Dave isn't totally sure how much they will cost but we think they will be around $55 without the shipping. They are going to go on sale Thursday, Dec. 10th at 10am US Pacific Time.
Here's the post from Dave at 20 Buck Spin:
This is to let everyone know that we'll begin selling the Kylesa "Static Tensions" Wooden Box Set on Thursday December 10th around 10 a.m. Pacific Time. There are 150 copies total, but only 115 copies will be made available through 20 Buck Spin. Additionally we are limiting orders to ONE per customer per address. In other words, we will not ship more than one to anyone with the same name, or same address. We will refund you for ALL your box orders if you try to order more than one. This is the best way we can think of to let as many people have a chance at one as possible. If there's still some left after a few days, then we MIGHT open it up to multiple orders. But initially it's only 1 per human being/dwelling.
Regarding shipping. These things will likely weigh 3-4 pounds fully packaged. So outside the US the shipping will be $20-30 minimum we're wagering. You will see the price before you pay. We are NOT promising delivery of these boxes domestic or abroad by December 25th. We will pack/ship these as quickly as possible before we close for the year December 15th, but we make no promises to that end. Finally as noted before, the current discounts being offered on all items throughout the Phantom City store site, will NOT apply to this box set.
We have received a lot of emails about this box in recent days. We appreciate everyone's interest and situation. However, we simply can't answer the inquiries and can't help you out if your dog's sick that day or you have to work, or any other reason as to why you're worried about not getting one. We feel badly about possibly not getting these to everyone who wants one. It's not done with a collector mentality in mind, but rather a limitation on resources and funds to do anymore than what we've done. We are not a big business, we are one guy. We hope you can understand that no one is trying to be mean to you or exclude you from anything by creating this rat race. Our hope is that we've produced the right amount of these for people who are willing to pay the price (which incidentally, won't be revealed until Thursday) for a really nice Kylesa release. We'll know on Thursday how close we were to a correct guestimate. www.20buckspin.com
10.8.2009super ultimate limited deluxe mondo bizarro version...
We are currently hard at work on the super ultimate limited deluxe mondo bizarro version of Static Tensions. This thing is gonna come housed in a sturdy custom wooden box with the artwork screenprinted onto the cover. It’ll be the 2xLP 45 RPM version on colored vinyl exclusive to the box, and will also include the LP booklet, a special screenprinted 12×24 insert, a poster, a turntable slipmat plus some other goodies. Cost is still being determined and we’re not sure when or if we’ll pre-order these. We can tell you it’ll be limited to 150, won’t be available until late November, and will only be available from 20 Buck Spin and the band. DO NOT ASK US ABOUT PRE-ORDERS! WE WILL POST MORE NEWS WHEN THERE IS NEWS TO REPORT!
Basically, we are huge fans of vinyl and with each release we try to do something really special. For example, with To Walk A Middle Course, we made 100 records on clear vinyl with silk screened glass covers and only sold them on tour. For Time Will Fuse Its Worth, we made 100 on clear and silk screened white plexi glass. We sold these online. We figured the next logical step would be wood and Dave from 20 Buck spin came up with the box idea. Needless to say, we were way into the idea. These should look really sick and we are happy that Dave is so amped on the project
9.9.2009Planet Caravan
Planet Caravan custom artwork unveiled / Film screenings added to event:
KNOXVILLE- Planet Caravan producers AC Entertainment have just unveiled the
custom artwork for the 2009 festival. Alan Forbes’ design will be featured on
festival t-shirts and a limited run of event posters. His images are well known in
the world of hard rock and heavy metal from his work with such bands as
Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins, High on Fire, Pelican, Earthless and many
more.
This announcement also comes with the addition of a bonus festival activity--
showings of John Srebalus’ documentary film Such Hawks Such Hounds. The
film explores the music and musicians of the American hard rock underground,
focusing on the psychedelic and ’70s proto-metal-derived styles that have in
recent years formed a rich body of unclassifiable sounds. Such Hawks will be
shown after each day’s music on the outdoor viewing patio at The Asheville
Pizza and Brewing Company. Showings start at 12:30AM, only a short walk from
the Orange Peel and Mo Daddy’s. The Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company
offers great food and delicious local beers, all available during the film. Weekend
pass purchasers will also receive 15% off food with their festival laminate.
Planet Caravan, a two-day music festival celebrating the origins of heavy music,
takes place September 18-19, 2009 at The Orange Peel Social Aid & Pleasure
Club and Mo Daddy’s in downtown Asheville, NC. The event spotlights bands
that carry on the traditional sounds of heavy rock and blues and others that push
it into new and exciting territories.
Festival tickets are $79.50. Single day tickets for either Friday or Saturday are
$49.50 per day, plus applicable service fees. Both are on sale now. For tickets,
visit The Orange Peel box office, call Ticket Web at 866-468-7630, or visit

We've been home from Europe for a few weeks now and it was seriously a killer time. Thanks so much to our good friends Torche for doing the majority of the shows with us. Thanks also to Coalesce whom we met for the first time and played a handful of shows with. They are such a killer band and great people as well. Thanks to all of the promoters and all of the fans who came out to support the tour. We just uploaded a ton of tour photos to our myspace page so check them out
www.myspace.com/kylesa
We're doing about a month of US headlining shows this Fall (Sept 17- Oct 14) with some killer support bands (Saviours, Tombs, Red Fang, Bison BC, Iron Lung). Check the TOUR DATES to see which bands are supporting in your region.
There's talk amongst us to play Static Tensions in its entirety. We'll have more time then usual to play so if we do decide to play the record, we'll also play some old songs. Let us know what you think and what you want to hear.
In addition to having new shirts for the tour, we'll also have some nice silkscreened posters by Santos and we also plan on having a limited tour version of Static Tensions. Currently we have two new shirt designs available at INDIE MERCH and have just worked out a deal with IMPERIAL CLOTHING in Europe. There are a few other things in the works....

Updates Updates
We are happy to announce a spring tour with MASTODON (We are no longer touring with The Haunted in April) This will take us around the US and Canada. Check out the Tour section for dates.
We've uploaded one new song to our MYSPACE page titled "Unknown Awareness". It's the 4th song off of Static Tensions and is the A side to the 7" that Hyperrealist Records is putting out. The B-side is from the recording sessions and it's a drum song that Eric and Carl wrote...just drums and it pummels. It's appropriately called "Drum Jam".
We'll have these 7"s to sell at this weekends SCION Fest in Atlanta. More info about the ordering of these very soon... He's doing 600 on black, 400 on color and we did 36 with white labels and silkscreened covers that were sold at the Amebix shows.
Apparently, the album has leaked and although you'll be able to get a sense of what the new record is like, it is in no way a good representation of what the album is. You can not hear the nuances or subtleties of the drums or of the guitars. What's out there is badly reproduced and just doesn't do Static Tensions justice. We spent a lot of time and energy trying to get the sounds and mixes just right. It's a shame that many of your first impressions are not what we, as a band, intended. Although we are not naive, we do encourage our fans to get the CD or vinyl so that you can really appreciate what we were trying to accomplish with this record.
Pre - orders are up for both the CD at:
PROSTHETIC RECORDS
and the LP at:
20 BUCK SPIN
The CD package deal consists of the CD and a shirt is $20 and we'll do a limited run of these shirts. Shirt art is the album cover by Mr. Baizley. If you just want the CD, email info@prostheticrecords.com 20 Buck Spin is also doing pre-orders for the vinyl and they went all out! Head over there to get the info on the various pressings / packages. They look awesome. There is a single version with an 8 page 12 x12 color booklet and a very limited (500) deluxe double vinyl version. He just posted more pics.
EUROPE: currently get in touch with info@punkdistro.de for the deluxe edition.
We'll be announcing our European plans very soon. we are stoked about them!
Here's what a few people have said about the album thus far:
I remain steadfast: this is the best Kylesa record to date...Static Tensions is the embodiment of Kylesa at the top of their game. I no longer have to tell friends they need to see them live to really get the music. - Nick DeMarino, StonerRock.com
From the start of opener Scapegoat, it's clear this is Cope's finest recording job yet - JJ Koczan (StonerRock.com)
Kylesa have not only taken the next logical step from the careening vibrancy of their Time Will Fuse Its Worth album, they have demonstratively issued one of this year's statement albums in the form of the booming and dexterous Static Tensions...With no pretention intended, Static Tensions is one of 2009's immediate elite. - MetalMinute.com 4.5/5
Kylesa have always been of superior stock, but Static Tensions moves from strength to strength by becoming more musical and both traditionally heavy and exploratory. The result is their best album yet. —KEVIN STEWART-PANKO / Decibel Magazine Review 9/10

Updates
Today we unveil one of the new songs off of our upcoming record Static Tensions (www.myspace.com/kylesa). Said and Done was the first song we wrote for Static Tensions and has a little bit of everything that can be heard on the album. We think it is a good introduction. I must note that the mp3 does does give the song's nuances proper justice. The cd will melt your walls.
The album artwork was created by our long time friend John Dyer Baizley of
Baroness and was produced by our guitar player / vocalist Phillip Cope (Baroness, Withered).
Pre-order details for the album can be found on www.prostheticrecords.com
The pre-order special includes an exclusive album edition t-shirt by John Baizley and CD. We'll have more information on the vinyl and 7" later this week.

REMIXED song / updates
Phillip recently remixed our song "Between Silence and Sound" from the album Time Will Fuse Its Worth. We think he did a really trippy and cool version of the song. Check it out on our MYSPACE page and download it and then put on your headphones.
In other news, we're continuing to write for the new record. We'll be in the studio this summer.
Also, SHIRTKILLER>COM just launcehd a new shirt by GUNSHO. Check it out!

Sound Person
We're looking for a sound guy / gal for our upcoming tour with the Ocean. If you are interested and have experience, please get in touch. Thanks!

3.9.2008some shows
We're doing some co-headling shows with THE OCEAN from Germany in late May. Lair of The Minotaur and Withered will also be playing so we expect some brutal nights of metal riffery. Phillip just recorded WITHERED'S new record for Prosthetic and it sounds sick! We look forward to witnessing those songs live. We'll have new t-shirts at these shows as well as vinyl and cds.
3.9.2008back home
We just got back from touring Europe with Baroness. Thanks to everyone who helped out, came to the shows, put us up or showed us around. A big thanks to KRANK amps for giving some kick ass gear to use! Special thanks to the Marricle, whom without, we would have been completely lost. And of course, Stachel, for the quick whit and four wheels. Thanks to all of our fans who supported us even when Robert had to go home due to a tragic family loss. It is really apprectiated.
We've got a few shows planned for late May on the east coast. Other than that, we will continue working on our new record.

European Assault 08 volume 1
We're gearing up to go to europe with our good friends Baroness Jan. 23. See the TOUR section for dates. We've gotten lots of emails from folks all over wondering why we aren't coming to their country. Believe me, we WANT to go to your country! This tour is a short one so we could only fit in a few. We hope to come back sometime in 2008 and hit up the places we missed. So invite us back!
We'll have some new merch for this tour in addition to vinyl and cds. PRANK RECORDS has decided to repress our first cd/lp (it's the self titled one with the Pushead cover) and we should have some of these with us. It's been out of print of print for a while now and I'm not sure that many ever made it to Europe in the first place. The last time we were in Europe, TIME WILL FUSE ITS WORTH was not out yet so I'm happy to say that we will have these as well. Check out ourMYPSACE page for new shirt designs. We're making some zipper hoodies with the Hollow Severer art (by Mr. Baizely). He added some new illustrations for the design as well as changing the color scheme. They look killer!
We posted our cover of Pink FLoyd's "Set The Controls for The Heart of The Sun" on our myspage page. So check it out and let us know what you think. We're huge fans of the early Floyd.

Vote for our video on Headbangers Ball.
Nominated for best video of 2007! and other sweet news. We were just informed that our video for Hollow Severer has been nominated for the best video of 2007. A big cheers to My Good Eye for making it happen! We are flattered and pretty stoked at the notion. You can vote for our video at www.hbb.mtv2.com (click "vote"). It would be pretty crazy if we won.
In other news, many of our fans have been asking us if we would record our live version of Pink Floyd's "Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun" (we've been playing it live since February or so). Well, it finally happened. We recorded it recently and once it's mastered, we'll post it on our myspace and our website for free download.
